9/27 Biology Update and homework due 10/4
Hi folks,
Today we discussed the 7 characteristics of life. We also touched on our next unit in which we will be getting into the 4 biological molecules.
For homework this week:
Read pages 3 - 19
Answer questions 3 - 21.
Be sure to study the 7 characteristics of life and the functional groups. Both are very likely to be on an upcoming quiz.

9/20 Bio update and homework due 9/27
Hi folks,
Today we learned a bit more about science in general by taking some time to discuss bias. Bias is certainly something you want to keep in mind when looking at your own studies or when looking at other people's studies.
We also spent some time seeing how special and important water is to life on this planet.
For homework this week:
Read the text pages 31 - 44
Do Section 1 Review on pg. 34 #'s 1-6 and 8.
Do Section 3 Review on pg. 44 #'s 1 - 6
Also, be sure to study your notes from today's lecture.
Next weeks quiz will have questions based on this homework, last week's and today's lecture and the prefixes and suffixes.
Best,

Hi Everyone!
Every week, I'll be sending out an email with a quick summary of what we did in class. I also send a recording of each class so that folks who miss class or who would like to review the material can take a look. That is usually posted to YouTube within 24 hours. The recordings are "unlisted" so that they can only be viewed by folks who have the link.
This week we covered some administrative stuff such as homework, quizzes, grade reports and we went over a basic syllabus for the year.
We also talked a bit about the difference between a hypothesis and a theory and what it takes for something to become a scientific theory.
For homework this week please do the enclosed .pdf. Also, begin memorizing all the prefixes and suffixes on the .pdf. There are a lot but many of which you probably already have an idea as to what they mean. This would be an excellent time to get those flash cards going. There won't be a quiz next week but they will be scattered on upcoming quizzes so please take the time to get to know them.I've decided to use a bit of technology to help us out here. I've created a Quizlet with the prefixes and suffixes I'm expecting you to know. Check it out. There are a couple of little games here that are a lot of fun and really do help to learn the terms. Here's the link to the Quizlet. https://quizlet.com/_70zzpeBest,
